Your Dive Club Needs You - join the 2014/15 USSAC Committee!

Every Spring USSAC hold's its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and our members vote in a new Committee. Whilst all our members, whether students at UoS, Brighton and BSMS or associate members (former students and instructors) get a vote, it is the student members that really run the show. Behind the scenes a small group of them has worked hard to advertise the club to new members, re-launch our website, organise a training programme, process memberships, liaise with the Student Union, get all the equipment and boat serviced and make important decisions about how we select new trainees and deliver our training. Whilst the Committee get bags of support from the instructors and some other associate members, it is the mainly student committee (only the Diving Officer and Equipment Officer are non-students) that get to decide what direction the club really goes in. This is how it has been for over thirty years.

So, if you have ideas about how we can be more inclusive, how we can be more sociable, how we can raise more money or do more cool stuff, then please please get involved. Serving on the Committee is a great way to pimp your CV and it can be a lot of fun. For those planning to stick with diving and the club during their time at uni this is just a great way to put something back into a club that is run and supported by volunteers. So please think about it. You will get tons of support from more experienced members and from the outgoing Committee.

Afterall, if you don't do it who will? It is your club. Not the universities and not the student unions, but yours. So get stuck in.

You do not have to believe me - just read the brilliant testimonies of some of the outgoing Committee and the helpful descriptions of their roles they have provided.

The AGM will be advertised shortly  - so please look out for this and make sure you are there. Even if you feel unable to stand for a Committee position the AGM is an opportunity to thank the current Committee for all their hard work on your behalf over the past 12 months and vote in the new members. Democracy rules!

Any questions about any of this just drop a current committee member a line or email divingofficer [at]
